Money Money

Mondays are probably the worst day of the week. They seem to drag on and are always the busiest day too. So what has gone wrong so far! 1) Just seen that my mortgage repayment for last month has been taken out twice. Not nice considering the large amount. Why can't banks get these things right? O.K it will be put right but still it means the hassle of calling them and organising it. You would have thought it was all done automatically by computers. 2) Thinking of going on holiday soon. So was looking up some flights and Hotels. I know I moan about this every year but I just can't seem to understand why it's so expensive from Jersey. A Flight to Cyprus return for 2 people would cost me £1407.68 and the Hotel I wanted to stay in would cost me £490. I always give myself £50 a day to spend on my hols so that would be a total of £1298.84 each or £2597.68 for two of us! Yeah right...... £2600 for a week in Cyprus. Back to the drawing board I think. In other news I am still looking out for a drum kit. If anyone knows where I can get one to borrow for a weekend I would much appreciate it. Come on someone must know somebody :-)

Kazoo

Americans seem to celebrate everything these days. Today is no exception either. Yes folks it is National Kazoo Day today, it is the 22nd to be precise. Don't know if I ever mentioned that we all got Kazoo's for Christmas, thanks to Jonathon. What a bloody racket we made. Can you imagine what kind of noise 6 pissed up adults were making at 2am on Boxing Day? I tell you it wasn't healthy. A real good laugh though :-) So may I be the first to say "Happy National Kazoo Day" to you all.

22nd National Kazoo Day

Update: I have just received a text from Alan asking me to bring the Kazoo's up to the pub tonight to celebrate National Kazoo Day. Good or Bad idea? I will leave it up to you to decide and will let you know what I decided next week.

Salt & Shake

Does anybody remember the crisps called Salt & Shake? I've just had a packet of them for lunch and found 2 blue packets of salt inside. That has just brought on a school day memory about them. I used to have Salt & Shake all the time at school. We used to have bets on who would get the most packets of salt in their bags. Ok the bet was only for 10p but it was still a bet. I actually won it at the end of the year with one bag containing 7 packets! Can anyone beat that? Whilst on the subject of betting. Don't you just hate it when you make a bet with someone, by shaking their hand and agreeing an amount and they refuse to pay up at the end of it? I have had that done to me a few times in the past. Also a couple of people I know made a bet recently for £100. The bet was lost by one of them and the other isn't paying up. Yup I hate that! I had a bet with Robert the other day. We shook hands and off we went. I proved to him that I was right and guess what? He paid up the next day. Now that's how a bet should be done. Thanks for that Robert. Ok it was only for 50p but a bet is still a bet :-) Now can anyone beat me with 7 packets of salt? No this isn't a bet.

Water Rats

Friday at last and a couple of things on the agenda to do. Firstly, one of my readers is celebrating a Birthday today so please wish Dan (B) a happy Birthday. Hope you have a good one, if that is at all possible in Norwich :-) I'm sure it is! Secondly, Do you remember the The Water Rats Jazz Band? Well I received an email from the drummer Barry Tyler yesterday, saying "Hi Markiss. Bill says that you're finding me a drum kit. Can you let me know what it comprises? And does it come with a blonde?." Well Barry, just to let you know, that is the first I have heard that I am finding you a drum kit. But I will endeavour to find you one though. So, do any of my Jersey readers know where I can get hold of a drum kit? Any help would be much appreciated. The Jazz band will be playing over in Jersey on the 11th, 12th and 13th of February. Venues to be confirmed but I think we have sorted out The Tipsy Toad, The Blue Note and The St Mary's Country Inn. The Mont Fellard could also be on the list but I am not too sure yet. I will let you know the times, dates and venues closer to the time.

Just got home 1

This could become a feature on this site. A picture of me on my webcam when I first turn on the computer, after the pub that is :-) Don't really know why, but since I have a webcam and no-one ever talks to me on it, I might as well use the damned thing. So I present you with.............. ME TONIGHT: And no I wasn't posing for it. That is really my normal stance when using the computer! Justs adds a little more (errrmmm what's the word?) Oh I don't bloody know! You know what I mean.

Inndulgence

I can't really afford not to join this inndulgence scheme. Even though I was the first to join the scheme I never received my membership card. But now I have just registered again online directly with the brewery. So hopefully I should have my card soon. Does this give me a reason to have that extra pint in the evenings now? Don't think that is possible tell you the truth. So every pint I will get 10 points. That makes 60 each day. Which means I should get to my 500 point total in 8 days (ish, if not before). That will give me a £5 voucher to spend on more beer! So looks to me as though this scheme will give me 2 free pints a week. What a great idea, just wish they had started it 15 years ago. By my reckoning my card would be worth £561.60. I can feel some trouble brewing (sorry for the pun).

Found Items

I really think someone is having a laugh with me you know? Remember the golf balls? Well last night I was walking down to the pub and found a golf Tee in the entrance of the car park (nowhere near the golf balls). Either someone is playing a round of golf in St Mary or I am just a magnet to all things golf! I think I will start off a photo blog of items I find on the way to and from the pub from now on. You never know, by the end of the year I may have the full kit.

Google Video Search

Welcome to the latest installment from Google. Google Video Search. It is in the Beta stage at the moment, so searching for videos doesn't bring in many results as of yet. That's only because they only began indexing in December, 2004. I will be keeping an eye on it. Should be another good one from Google. Yes the war is still on though, Yahoo has launched their own video search too! Both of them released it at the same time yesterday. Strange that!

The Bulge

Please tell me this isn't real! The Bulge And no I wasn't looking to buy one, I found it on a link :-) I have a perfectly fine bulge. (Too much info) But seriously, do blokes actually wear these things? Can you imagine getting back to a girls house and taking your jocks off whilst wearing one of these? Talk about ruining the moment.

Norwich Union

Norwich Union Healthcare my arse! Here is a simplified version of my story. Had an operation in October 2004. Got sent the bill. Sent N U H the bill 3rd November. Got sent reminder to pay bill. Called N U H, they hadn't received it. Sent bill out again 6th November. Received "Final Demand" yesterday! Called N U H today. Dick fuck on the telefelone said it was suspended. "SUSPENDED?" I'm kinda suprised. "Why? Do you know that I pay nearly £85 a month on my medical insurance? I haven't made a claim in over 5 years. That means I have paid you in excess of £5064 since my last claim and you have suspended my claim for £280?" Suddenly Dick Fuck asks me if it is ok to be put on hold while he speaks to his Senior Dick Fucker. "Yes, no problem at all" says Markiss. Dick Fuck comes back on the phone. "I am very sorry to keep you holding Sir. I have spoken to my Dick Fucker and he has told me that your claim will be taken care of within the next 10 days." "So why did you tell me my claim was suspended then?" asks Moi. "It hasn't been suspended Sir, the claim will be processed in 10 days." says Dick Fuck. "Yes I know that, you just told me that. Obviously on your computer screen infront of you it says that my claim has been suspended and it is only being delt with now because you went to see your supervisor (Dick Fucker). If I hadn't have called you today nothing would have happenend. So I want to know why it was suspended." Markiss asks in a slightly irritated tone. "The claim is going to be processed in 10 days Sir." Dick Fuck says. "Well we are obviously not going to get anywhere here are we? Well thanks for your time. I will let my specialist know he is going to receive the cheque soon." I say in a rather miffed way. "Thank you for calling Sir." said Dick Fuck. CLICK. End of call! (Shortened version, real version took 20 minutes. I should send them a bill for my time!)

What a load of bollocks that was. Over £5000 paid to them and I get a Dick Fuck on the other end of the line telling me my claim had been suspended. At least it was all sorted out by the Fucker in the end.

Thanks for your help Fuckers (Norwich Union UK).

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. I feel better again!

David Beckham

In a shock move today, Real Madrid's English hero, David Beckham turned down a move to North East underdogs Newcastle United. A fee of £28 million was agreed for the former Manchester United man but Beckham was reported to have said there was no way he could leave Real for Newcastle after what the Toon Army had done to Thailand and the surrounding area.

Sorry :-)

More of a debate

This post is going to be more of a debate than one of my own thoughts on the subject. It's about the Soldiers and the Court Martial. You know the one. The one with the photo's (Sounds like a Freinds episode!)

Photo's of British Soldiers punching, standing on and generally being bad boys to the Iraqi Men/Women they have captured. What I would like to know is what do you think of the situation?
There are two ways I look at it really: (Very basic explanation)
1) They shouldn't have done it. Come on we're British! You Boys and Girls shouldn't be acting in that manner.
2) They were at War! Dealing with the enemy (But I don't think they had been to trial yet) things like this happen in War. People get hurt and killed. They wern't there from their own doing. I'm sure they would have prefered to be at home shooting targets for a living.

----

Here are some thoughts from other people I found on the Net:

1) Remember these soilders would not have been put in this position had it not been for the lies that Bush and Blair used to justify this illegal war.

2) "WAR- TIME". That means things happen that don't go on in our daily lives, it means people die and get hurt.

3) Why would soldiers take pictures of themselves committing obvious crimes? Who is to say these folks recording these images aren't trying to destroy or degrade their own military units

4) It's saddening to see what they are doing - maybe a few pictures of what the prisioners were doing before being captured would help balance things out. Don't forget that there are people murdering civilians almost daily, rounding up others working towards elections and executing them, cutting off heads, buring bodies and so on. Does it justify these soldier's actions? No, but let's just keep things in scale.

----

There you go. I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter. Whether you are for or against what has happened or you may be like me and look at it from different perspectives.
Go on who's first?

Nickelback

As if there weren't already enough reasons to laugh at Nickelback. Some internet genius took Nickelback's first horrible "hit," and mixed it with Nickelback's newest awful "hit." By "mixed" I mean one shitty song plays in the left speaker, and the other ear-bleeding excuse for rock plays in the right speaker. What a surprise, they are almost EXACTLY THE SAME. It's uncanny, sad, and hilarious at the same time.

Much better if you have earphones... But you can hear it with speakers ok.

Have a listen to it here

I would just like to point out that the words above are not my own. I actually like some of Nickelback's stuff. Well not that much but what ever. Thanks to Richard (Northern Island) for this one.

:: FANTOM ::

Just found the golf balls on the Internet. It's the red and white one on the top right. Know anyone who uses those in Jersey? If you haven't got a clue at what I am talking about then read one of my previous posts entitled Weird. I really would like to find out what that was all about :-)

Carefully

I have to be careful how I word this post but it has been on my mind for a while now. The reason I have to be careful is because it is regarding the Tsunami disaster. To be more precise, about the raising of all the cash for the disaster. To begin with, I want you to know how I feel about the disaster itself. I would imagine I am the same as most people in this world, I was totally shocked and saddened at what I saw and heard. So much so, that I donated £50 to the fund. I don't normally give to charities throughout the year, as I already give £15 a month to the RNLI by direct debit from my bank account. I also support a local Wildlife trust that breeds endangered animals and returns them to the wild (after trying to regenerate the habitat they live in). Am I rambling on? Anyway, I wanted to show you that I am a caring person all in all. Now with my problem. I am starting to get annoyed with how "SOME PEOPLE" are raising money for this disaster. I will give you two examples: Example 1 - A dinner (organised before the disaster) was selling raffle tickets, like they have always done each year, the tickets were £5 more than normal because we were told that the extra £5 was going towards the appeal. Sounds nice doesn't it? But this is where my problem starts. The raffle sold 5 times the normal amount from previous years. The extra £5 was given to charity but also doing this the organisers of the raffle also made a massive profit. Why couldn't all of the money gone to charity? Example 2 - Just one I heard on the radio this morning. A car boot sale is being held this weekend and it is costing £10 for a plot. For every plot sold £2 will be donated to charity. Nice again huh? Not! This car boot sale is held every weekend and normally charges £6 per plot! So the organisers for this car boot are making £2 per plot extra, are getting free advertising on local radio and so therefore are going to get even more trade as well. O.K these are just 2 small examples but the idea of people making money out of, one of the biggest disasters in the last hundred years is appalling. Instead of buying tickets, plots etc why not cut out the middle man and give your money directly to the appeal. There are loads of ways to do this. If you are local (Jersey) you can donate on the Jersey Asia Aid website. Not only will your money be going straight to the disaster fund but The States Comptroller of Income Tax has agreed that the appeal fund will receive tax relief on donations over £100. This means that, for example, a £100 donation will effectively be worth £125. You can also donate directly to the Disasters Emergency Committee.

I hope I have made my point here, I am not the best with words. I am just starting to get fed up with people making money out of this and then wanting a pat on the back. Yes they are also giving money, I know. There is just something wrong about it all. Maybe I am the only person who feels like this. If so? I appologise for voicing my opinion. If others feel similar to me about it, then why haven't I seen or heard anything about it?
Thanks for listening (reading) to me ramble.

Weird

Now this is weird. Ok I have had a few drinks but what the hell is going on here? I decided to walk a different way back home tonight (from the pub that is) and as I am walking back, I see a golf ball on the road. So I pick it up and put it in my pocket. As you do! Keep on walking and find another one. Put that one in my pocket too. Seems a little strange by now huh? But there is more to come. Get to my house and there is a golf ball outside my back door too. Can someone explain this to me please? The clues I have so far: 1) Never walk this way home. Just did it for a change. 2) Golf balls are new 3) They have "Fantom Range" printed on them.

Just freaked me out a little really. But at least I have 3 nice new golf balls.

The phone must have:
1) Email
2) Colour screen

I would prefer it to have:
1) True Tones
2) Bluetooth

Price isn't really a problem but I would prefer it to cost £5..... Nah joking. Don't want to spend more than £300.

Anyone have any ideas?

Quicky

Just a quicky. Since I didn't post yesterday I felt a little guilty, so thought I would rectify that today! There are reasons for my absence but I wont go into them in detail. I am well busy. So busy that it looks as though my weekend wont be as good as I would have liked. I have to work it! It has been one of those weeks where one client is pretty pissed and another one is even more pissed and they both want their job doing right now. I think I need to employ another member of staff. On top of that, I have a well big headache today too. Think it is a mixture of alcohol and stressful thoughts. My mind has been working overtime this week. Now a couple more things. Where are you Kel? Is it one of your New Years resolutions, to stop posting? :-) If so you are doing a good job. Happy Birthday, Yola, for yesterday. Where's my ringtone? Still waiting.

YDS

Occasionally I do post about topics that don't have anything to do with Tits or female body parts and this is one of them. The new craze of desktop searching seems to be taking us all by storm recently, with the release of Google Desktop and Msn Desktop. This really isn't a new idea since it was Bill Gross, who conceived and developed a similar product, called Lotus Magellan in 1989. But things have moved on in leaps and bounds since then. It looks to me as if the latest desktop Search which is the Yahoo! Desktop Search is going to be the winner out of all of them. Funnily enough, Bill Gross seems to be involved with the development of the software. X1 a company which Bill Gross has a lot to do with has partnered up with Yahoo. That's probably why the Yahoo! Desktop Search looks so good. I will be trying it out for size over the next few weeks and can I recommend you to do the same. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Nice puzzle

Let's start off the new year with a real brain teaser game. If you read my blog then no doubt you use the Internet and a computer quite often. Well let's see how well you know how to use both of them. Firstly you start off on level 1 and you have to reach Level 80. How you do it isn't often that simple but there is always a way. Make sure to read the hints etc. Level 1 and 2 are simple but Level 3 onwards gets you thinking. If you make it to Level 7 then you should have the right idea on how the game works. I'm on level 7 at the moment, see if you can do any better. Good luck and leave a message here to let me know how you are doing. Pass this url around to your colleagues and let them have a go too. It is addictive :-)

Update : One other thing to remember is when you click on the link on my site the new page shows my url in the address bar. Make sure you copy the shortcut and paste it in so it shows the other sites address. As sometimes you may have to change that. Sorry for the clue. But it is written in the hints anyway.

I survived

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!! I can't believe it's been so long since I have posted something. I do apologise. I have been really busy since I started work this year. Seem to have been given loads of deadliners as soon as I came in. I am on top of things now though. So, hope you all had a great time off over the festive season. I sure did. I haven't got a clue what this year will bring but am looking forward to it. Any changes will be for the best, I think. I haven't made any resolutions as of yet but am considering a few things. Will let you know what they are when I get round to sussing them out. Probably do the quit smoking along the way sometime. Did you know it's bad for you? Maybe even think about cutting my drinking down too. Nah ,stuff it, I like the beer too much. This post will put my blog into my third year now. What interesting or uninteresting things will you be seeing? God knows! Just keep popping in and let me amaze (bore) you. Just to remind you, the Jersey Brats competition is still running. Now all of you have come back from your hols you can get cracking on some more ideas and designs. At the end of April I will be running a vote to see which of the designs or ideas are your favourites and if I agree :-) I will make the one you choose into this years T-Shirt and send the creator a free T-Shirt. So please tell or your friends about it. I am sure there must be some really good designers out there. Right, have to get back to work, so will post later. Here's hoping you all have a great 2005.
