Thrift Club

Loadsa money..................... Well not quite loads but a little extra to help out over Christmas is coming my way this weekend. Yes it's that time of year again, our pubs Thrift payout. But before that can happen we have to have a meeting, which is tonight, to make sure everything is all in order for the weekend! Sometimes it runs smoothly and other times it can be a nightmare. Let's hope it goes well. Can't be hassled with a long and tedious meeting.

Jersey to Norwich

Today I received an email from Flybe. Not normally that interesting but this time was quite good reading for me. Flybe have now started to fly form Jersey to Norwich at last. For those of you who don't know me, this is really good news as my Mum lives in Norwich and this should make it a lot easier to go and see her :-) On another matter. My Grandad has had 2 strokes recently and I wanted to just wish him all the best. My Mum has moved in with him so she can keep an eye on him. Thinking of you Grandad...........!

Big Bugger

I have just read Rob's site and saw a piece about GigaPixel God. Which reminded me of something I saw a couple of days ago. It was a photo taken of Delft (Where? I haven't got a clue!). If this photo were printed, it would measure 6.67 m by 2.67 m (300 dpi) Pretty impressive huh? Anyway, take a look at the 2.5 gigapixel photo here.

Speakers

Ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaa! Speakers should be on their way tomorrow On another note. I have bought all of my Christmas presents this year and this morning came into my office only to find that a member of my staff had emptied all the bins and mistakenly put one of the presents in the trash! That's £25 down the drain! I apologise about the smilies but have just been sent a smiley program so had to use it. No doubt you will be seeing a lot more in the future!

Xlnt Music

Have been listening to 2 albums all day today. (I need to listen to an album a good 2 or 3 times before I can tell whether I like it or not). Well these albums are XLNT! My favourite out of the 2 of them is "Snow Patrol" : "Final Straw". I would give it an 8/10 which is very good for me. The Second album is "U2" : "How to dismantle an Atomic Bomb". I would give that a good 7/10! Go get 'em if you haven't already. You wont be disappointed.

AWOL

And now for some AWOL, an acronym for “Alcohol With Out Liquid”. How sad is that? Or brilliant? I don't know, will maybe have to give it a try :-) Right off for another Ciggy! And a drink in my ripped jeans and earings. I'm gonna be late back too! Alcohol Without Liquid

Conforming

Being a smoker and a drinker, I seem to be the target of loads of people. Taxes are always hitting me hard for one. Every time there is a new budget, Cigarettes and Alcohol are always put up in price by sooooooo much. Not only do I have to put up with that, the worst thing is other people who don't drink or smoke. Or even worse people who are "reformed" smokers/drinkers. Seems in this day and age we don't have the choice of our own to do what we want to. I always seem to be conforming to what other people want. Drinking less has been on the agender for a few years now and recently I have been told not to smoke at work aswell. Always conforming..........! Starting to get pissed off with it all now. Even when I was younger I used to get shit about my long hair, so in the end "they" won and I shaved my head. Then I got shit about my earings because you could see them then. Can't win! Just glad "they" don't see my other peircing :-) I still get shit about the clothes I wear. Ripped jeans, T-Shirts and leather Jackets (Well, I feel comfortable in them). Then there is my time keeping. People get pissed off with that too. I go to bed late (2 am) and get to work late (10 am) But then I work until 6-7 pm with no lunch so I do a 9 hour day. More than most office workers. So I have now started to conform on that too. Conforming conforming conforming!!!!!!!!!! I am changing so much sometimes I don't know who I am anymore. Change can be good if you want it but change if you are forced into it just doesn't seem to work. I know that after reading this, many off you would want to point out the fact that smoking, drinking, appearance and time keeping are all very important to get right. As in : not smoking, drinking in moderation, making an effort in my appearance to suit the venue and keeping my time keeping to conform with the "normal" members of society. But surely doing that is changing me into someone I am not.

From Markiss to Marcus I think.

P.S. This post is not aimed at anyone in particular. This post is aimed at people in general.
Oh and by the way, before anyone points out that smoking in work or public places is bad for others around you. I do know that. Luckily I have my own office which is closed off to other people. As for the smoking in pubs and restaurants etc. I am all for banning that too. Just make a place for us smokers to go so we can abuse our own bodies in peace without you do gooders pissing us off!

Right........ I have got that off my chest for one minute.
I'm going to have a Ciggy :-)

Innocence

A father watched his young daughter playing in the garden. He smiled as he reflected on how sweet and pure his little girl was. Tears formed in his eyes as he thought about her seeing the wonders of nature through such innocent eyes. Suddenly she just stopped and stared at the ground. He went over to her to see what work of God had captured her attention. He noticed she was looking at two spiders mating. "Daddy, what are those two spiders doing?" she asked. "They're mating," her father replied. "What do you call the spider on top?" she asked. "That's a Daddy Longlegs," her father answered. "So, the other one is a Mummy Longlegs?" the little girl asked. As his heart soared with the joy of such a cute and innocent question he replied "No dear. Both of them are Daddy Longlegs." The little girl, looking a little puzzled, thought for a moment, then took her foot and stomped them flat. "Well, we're not having any of that gay shit in our garden.......... Thanks "J L B" for that one :-)

Busy Busy

Didn't have much spare time today at work, so not much going on in the Land of Blog at markiss.co.uk. Couple of things to say though. Firstly, I have just got the latest Eudora email client (6.2). Got quite a few nice additions to the software again. This time it has got ScamWatch. Basically it looks at links in your email. If the link served in the email is different from the landing page URL or is an IP address rather than a hostname, a yellow pop-up window points out the difference. Should be interesting to see if it actually works! Secondly, I had a great weekend (Well most of it) and can't believe it went so quickly. Only 4 days to go until the next one now :-)

I have some speakers.

I have some speakers. I have some speaker brackets. See above picture. These speakers have something missing! They don't have any wires coming out of the back of 'em. Now, I have got wires and my problem is that I would like to hide them. Has anyone got any good ideas of how I can achieve this? The speakers are going at high level and the wires are coming from below. I have seen "Flat Wire" but can't get hold of any in Jersey. I am not going to start drilling channels in the blockwork. So ideas would be great. Sensible ones even better. Like, I know by placing an Elephant in the corner of the room would hide the wires but erm? Not many Elephants in Jersey going spare!

How many of you have got Gmail accounts? Probably loads by now. At last they have now enabled Pop access for your account. As usual they are providing it in small doses. To find out whether you can enable it yet you can go to your settings at the top of your account and if the 'Forwarding and POP' tab appears you can use it. All the setup instructions can be found here Gmail Go Pop Also if anyone still wants one and hasn't as yet just email me and I will send you an invite. I have a few left.

Two Men Went To War

I watched a great screenplay last night and loved it so much I thought I would mention it here. Maybe you have heard of the story before but I hadn't and found it quite amazing as it was based on true events during World War II. The screenplay was called "Two Men Went To War". What was it about? Read on: "Sergeant Peter King of the Army Dental Corps, too old to fight, and Private Leslie Cuthbertson, a trainee dental mechanic in the Corps, are thrown together by their passionate desire to see active service. Armed with just two revolvers and a dozen grenades, King persuades Cuthbertson to join him on a mission to occupied France.

In a letter to Winston Churchill, King explains their intention to invade France and fight the Germans. After a number of failed attempts, they finally arrive by boat and stumble across a German radar station. They succeed in blowing-up what they believe to be the main Operations Room, but are soon forced to make their escape as the entire compound unexpectedly erupts with gunfire and explosions. After narrow escapes from the Germans and a stray mine in the Channel, the two men are picked up at sea and interrogated as spies.

Identified as deserters, they are returned to their barracks to be court martialled. At the eleventh hour King and Cuthbertson are saved by the arrival of Major Merton, Churchill’s Chief Intelligence Advisor. Their letter has been received in Whitehall and Merton corroborates their heroic story. Exonerated of lying, King and Cuthbertson are nevertheless reprimanded by the Court for their behaviour, but receive an invitation to tea with the Prime Minister should they ever be in Whitehall."

Can you imagine going to France during the Nazi Occupation armed with just 2 guns and a dozen grenades? I found this story just so awe-inspiring. If you get the chance to watch it, I would recommend it big time. No special effects, just two men with guns!

You can get more information at the official website: Two Men Went To War : A true story

I would love to find out more info on the real historic events of this story. So if anyone knows of a place I can look on the Net please let me know. Cheers :-)

Flingstone Bridge

Bloody spyware/adware! I have spent ages trying to rid my computer of these little blighters today. OK Bazooker does a good job at finding them but "Flingstone Bridge" was a right bugger. Couldn't remove it manually in the end using Bazooker so tried everything else known to man. In the end I managed it. After downloading loads of different spy programs like SpyDoctor, SpyHunter and SpyBot (Which I think is the best) I went onto the Symantec webite and followed the instructions there. I followed everything and none of the files I was asked to delete showed up. Until getting right to the end of the list that is. So if you ever get "Flingstone Bridge" on your computer just go straight to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and in the right pane, delete "mswpl"="" That was the only file I needed to delete after all that. Don't you just love computers?

Lest we Forget

The service men and women who died fighting for Britain are being honoured at Armistice Day ceremonies across the country and the Commonwealth. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh each laid a cross to open the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey. At 1100 GMT, in line with tradition, they led the nation in a two-minute silence, before meeting veterans. At 1800 GMT, the Royal British Legion will stage a flypast and drop 1.3 million poppy petals above the Thames. The petals - one for every British and Commonwealth service person killed in action since the beginning of World War I - will be dropped between Tower and Westminster bridges by an original World War II Douglas Dakota DC3 aircraft during a two-minute flypast. The river will be lit up in red every night until Sunday when the Queen, accompanied by about 9,000 veterans, will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph. At the Field of Remembrance, relatives and friends will plant about 20,000 tiny wooden crosses, each adorned with a blood-red poppy, the name and rank of a fallen loved one and a message of commemoration. The crosses are laid out in regimental order by the Royal British Legion. Among the crosses, the occasional crescent or Star of David serves as a reminder Muslims and Jews have also laid down their lives for peace and freedom. The Queen Mother first opened the Field of Remembrance in 1936. For many years, she laid a cross in memory of her brother who was killed in World War I. A Field of Remembrance was also opened in Cardiff by First Minister Rhodri Morgan and World War II veteran Sir Tasker Watkins, 85, who won the Victoria Cross in 1944 as a major in the Welsh Regiment and later became a privy counsellor, lord justice of appeal and deputy chief justice of England. Armistice Day has been a tradition in Britain since King George V issued a proclamation in 1919 that "all locomotion should cease, so that, in perfect stillness, the thoughts of everyone may be concentrated on reverent remembrance of the glorious dead". In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the guns fell silent and World War I ended. Troops stationed in Iraq were among an estimated 45 million British people who observed the two-minute silence. On Wednesday a delegation of families of those killed or still fighting in the current Iraq war laid a wreath of poppies on the doorstep of 10 Downing Street. The 11-member group, from the newly-formed Military Families Against the War, included Rose Gentle and Reg Keys, who both lost sons in Iraq. They said the wreath symbolised the "blood on the doorstep of Tony Blair".

What a Prick!

Man glued condom to himself

A Romanian father-of-five needed medical help after he superglued a condom to his penis.

Nicolae Popovici, 43, told doctors he didn’t want any more children, reports National newspaper. The man, from Topraiser in Constanta County, named only as NP in the paper, already has five children.

He and his wife decided to use contraception but the condom they bought was too big so he stuck it on with glue. After sex, the man realised he couldn’t remove the condom and went to his village’s medical clinic for help. A nurse said: “He even said that he thought the condom could be used several times and that he wanted it stuck on his penis so he could use it again later. We barely managed to remove it in the end.” ananova

I am Back

Can't believe how quickly that week off went! I don't want to bore anybody with all the in's and out's of my week on holiday, so I will keep it short. Spent most of my time decorating. The kitchen is sorted now and looks really good (Clean). Went to B&Q 6 times! I am nearly on first name basis with the staff there now :-) I didn't manage to decorate my room (Office/Little Boys Room) but got started on it yesterday and things are moving along nicely. Went out for a few meals, had a few drinks and a few headaches. Just what a holiday is meant to be. Now back to work and also to catch up on all your websites.
