Guess what I have been doing?
I've been catching up on the BBC news website. Here are a couple more interesting articles I have been reading. The first one is about the MYDOOM email virus. It apparentely, at its height was making up 1 in 12 of all e-mail messages. Now I can vouch for that! Yesterday I received 7 emails containing it and today so far have received 3 emails. My Anti Virus software is coping with it with no problems at the moment, fingers crossed. BBC NEWS | Q&A: The Mydoom virusWhere's Osama? US military gets hi-tech help in the global war on terror
Imagine being able to pinpoint someone's location anywhere in the world simply by typing a few keywords on your PC. Sounds good, wonder if they will get it to work? Doubt Osama updates his own website online though!

8½ yeas for cannibal
Referring to my previous post Well here's a new one for me. The German cannibal, Armin Meiwes, has been sentenced to 8½ years in prison. The verdict falls well short of the prosecution's demand for a 15-year sentence for sexual murder. Now he can sit in prison and write his book and earn loads of money. Wonder when the video is going to be released on the Internet? Or has it been already? BBC NEWS | Manslaughter verdict for cannibalPosted by Markiss at 12:01 PM | Comments (0)

Annoying Pop ups
I have just recently been getting annoying pop up adverts on my computer. Obviously got them from an email or something. I can't find the source of these on my computer for the life of me. It keeps asking me to download this bloody dialer everyday! As if I am going to......! How the hell do I get rid of it? I have 2 different ones now. One called Trthlon dialler and another from thawte.com. Can I use a spyware program or something? Please help as this really pisses me off. Anyone have an idea?Posted by Markiss at 12:47 PM | Comments (0)
Quiz: Cannabis and the law
Since Cannabis is downgrading to a class "C" drug. Do you know what the new law is regarding Cannabis? Take the BBC quiz and see what you know about the change. Strangely enough I got 8 of them correct apart from questions 2 and 4 and I disagree with me getting number 2 wrong anyway.Posted by Markiss at 12:17 PM | Comments (0)

Business Sense
Can you Adam and Eve it? As New Yorkers frolicked in the fresh snow from the city's Dec. 7 blizzard, Gilberto Triplett, 28, set up a street-corner kiosk to sell snowballs for $1 each. According to the New York Daily News, he sold six, then created a fresh inventory, and moved four more before calling it a day. Giving up smoking
I have finally come up with a date for me to try and give up smoking this year. I have gone for April fools day! (April 1st). I have put a countdown timer on the right just to remind me of my intentions. Anyone got any tips on giving up smoking? Have you succeeded in giving up yourself? If so what did you use? Patches, gum, hypnotism or did you just stop and rely on your will power? Wish me luck :-)Posted by Markiss at 2:07 PM | Comments (0)

Sark abolishes death penalty
Did you know that Sark (Channel Islands, Great Britain) has only just abolished it's Death penalty? They abolished it this Wednesday. Mind you, they can't really afford to hang too many people on the Island, as there are only 580 people who live there. I'ts a shame really, because a thing like this does seem to give Sark it's individuality. Jersey (Channel Islands, Great Britain) got rid of it's Death Penalty in the 1960's bye the way!Posted by Markiss at 1:55 PM | Comments (0)
Inky, Pinky, Blinky and Clyde
So who remembers Inky, Pinky, Blinky and Clyde? If you don't know who they are then you have missed out on one of the best games ever. Pac Man! Along with Space Invaders, Pac Man was the real begining of the gaming world. I remember spending hours playing it in St Mary's pub when I was about 13. I kept coming down to the bar, where my parents were drinking, and bugging them for another 10p. Oh the good old days. Mind you not much has changed, apart from i'm the one at the bar now. Oh and I don't have any kids bugging me for money :) The only problem is that the new version of Pac Man is for the Gamecube and I don't have one. I think I will have to ask the landlord to get it in instead. BBC NEWS | Technology | Pac-Man freebie revives memoriesPosted by Markiss at 12:36 PM | Comments (0)

Bomb joke student jailed
What the hell does this girl think she is getting up to? Going through security and telling them she has got 3 bombs in her bag. Then repeating it twice. That must be one stupid person. I mean, anyone with half a brain knows not to even think bombs when in an airport let alone talk about them. O.k she was very stupid doing this but the next chapter of this story is even worse. The US authorities have jailed her and she is staying there for at least 6 weeks before she goes to court. Come on! That must be a joke too. She is going to be charged with terrorism. I can understand, if say, she rang up and told Police that there was a bomb in the Airport, thus causing a close down and panic. That would deserve this punishment but just joking about it. They could have quickly established that there wasn't any bombs. I agree with sending her to prison but just for one night to shit her up a bit. I can't see her doing it again! That's what they would do in the UK. BBC NEWS | UK | Bomb 'joke' student jailedPosted by Markiss at 3:01 PM | Comments (0)

Computers and your Bird
Warning: that computer could crash a marriageREADING e-mail at 3am, playing online games for hours on end and relentlessly downloading pop or pornography from the internet have turned the home computer into the most dangerous threat to marriage to have emerged over the past 30 years, US lawyers claim.
The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, which represents 1,600 divorce specialists, is to publish a booklet of marital advice that will include a stark warning that the humble PC is a potential home-wrecker.
Two-thirds of the academy’s lawyers said the PC had played a significant role in “alienating the affections” of one or both spouses in some of their cases.
While traditional causes of friction, from money worries to breakdowns in communication, retain their importance as factors in America’s 50% divorce rate, the home computer has made it easier to find new romance.
The survey showed that in the cases affected by the computer, 68% of unfaithful spouses had met their lover over the internet.
Sandra Morris, a San Diego divorce lawyer, said 10% of her clients were men who walked out on their wives and children only when they had established another relationship. “These are shy people who may never have met another person before the invention of the internet chat room,” said Morris.
“In the past they may not have been perfectly happy, but they would have stayed married and maybe worked out their problems. The computer is the fastest-growing threat to marriage I have seen in 34 years as a divorce lawyer.”
Pornography, which helped drive the development of ever-faster personal computers during the 1990s, is another element. Some 56% of aggrieved spouses claim an “obsessive interest in pornographic sites” ruined their relationships.
The guilty parties are not always men. Richard Barry, a divorce lawyer near San Francisco and president of the academy, said he had recently dealt with an emotionally wounded husband who discovered that his wife was hiding files of explicit photographs on his computer.
Most men are caught out when website subscriptions disguised as suspiciously bland memberships appear on their credit card bills.
But pornography is far from being the only problem of its kind. A recent report on Kazaa, an online music service, said 10m of its users spent more than 30 hours a week downloading pop tunes.
Computer games such as Sony’s EverQuest, in which up to 400,000 people pretending to be elves and wizards fight each other simultaneously, can last all night. More than 1m Britons, mostly men in their twenties and thirties, play such games at weekends.
Barry said the computer had become a new refuge from family stresses. “But both men and women can get up to a lot of mischief online, such as tracking down lost high-school loves and rekindling romances that may seem a lot more exciting than the lives they live today.”
While celebrities such as David Bowie, Sandra Bullock and Leonardo DiCaprio have admitted to day-long internet binges, Barry said such usage should be negotiated between couples before it gets out of hand. “Like all technologies — like TV and the car — it can be both a blessing and a curse,” he said. “The trick is to get off the computer and see if anybody is still at home.”

Weird Weekend !
Well all I got to say about this weekend was it ended up being quite a strange one. A good one though. Friday night: Started off normally. Went down to the pub, had a few drinks, as normal. Then someone had this great idea of having a party (you know who you are) So I had this great excuse of throwing one. I needed a computer fixing so they had to come round and have a look at it. Whilst having loads of Gin and Tonics of course. So off we went to my house, we got to the front door and I told them to be quiet while we were inside, so not to wake the better half (who went to bed at 10pm, it was now nearly midnight!) "Ssssh Ssssh" was all I kept saying. Cut a long story short. Come 2am, I was playing Led Zeppelin on full blast on the dvd player/ playstation 2. I was on air guitar and my other 2 guests were playing the bongo's extremely loud :-) For some reason I seem to remember trying to make some curtains somewhere along the line too! Apparently you could hear the music half way down the road too. The party finished at 4:30am. So much for the "Ssssh Ssssh".Saturday:
Well all I can say is this about Saturday. We call it head f*ck night at the pub. Basically because we all talk crap about nothing. Good fun though. But this night seemed to go seriously wrong. Topics of conversation were: Pierced eyeballs, tattooed pubes, arial tongues and doggie porn! Thanks to Lemur Girl for reminding me.
Then comes Sunday:
All started quite normal again. Was up early because I had to go and do the thrift club for our local pub. Well I was on the way down to the pub on my bike! And what do I see in a hedge down the road? My hat! Well this hat of mine had been missing since before Christmas..... I had been looking for it everywhere. What the hell was it doing in a bush about 200 yards from my place? It all came back to me in a shot. One night, whilst walking down to my place for a party, slightly worse for wear! With a few other people. Me and a friend who shall remain nameless :-) decided it would be a good idea to throw ourselves into a hedge when we saw a car coming. O.k I cut my head that night but totally forgot I was wearing my hat. But at least I finally found it.
So that was my weekend, hope you all had a good one too. Now back to work............... Bye for now.

Back it up!
How often do you back up your Computer?I don't know why but I have never got into the habit of backing up my computer. I know this seems really sad but I only back it up about once a month. I have therefore decided to make one of my New Year's resolutions to back up more often. If you don't I would recommend that you start aswell. I recently had a computer given to me by a mate and he has told me that the computer won't boot up. He said "Can you fix it for me, Oh and by the way, there is a lot of important stuff on it so please don't loose the information." That really sucks, as now if the information is lost, I will feel as if it was at least part of my fault! BACK UP YOUR COMPUTERS ! Makes life a lot easier all round and gives you peace of mind. I don't know what the recommended amount of backups are but I think once a week should do the job. At least it's better than once a month.

Berlin Kiss concert
Well it looks as though I know where i'm going to be in May/June this year. There is a massive festival being organised in Berlin which is rumored to feature RUSH, AEROSMITH, KISS, YES and a reformed GENESIS. I don't know how true this is but if it is going to take place then I will certainly be there. Fancy going Karl? I've been waiting to see Kiss in concert for a couple of years now but they never seem to come over to Europe, this could be my chance to see them along with 4 other great bands. Can't wait, fingers crossed.

Fire service website
Talking from an Architects point of view and a Blogger.I am designing a large complex of flats and housing at the moment and wanted a bit of advice on Fire safety issues. So what do I do? I go onto the States of Jersey Fire & Rescue Service website. Oh my god! What a load of Useless Cr*p.
From an Architects point of view there was absolutely no information on it of any use what so ever. I think the only useful information was a map showing you where the 2 Fire stations are (but everyone in Jersey knows that anyway and if you need them in anycase you call them and tell them where you are not where they are) and reminding you to change your batteries in your smoke alarms.
From a bloggers/website owners point of view, just have a look at their website design. Our Island is one of the richest in the world. Couldn't they have spent a bit more time and effort on this? It looks as though a child has designed this one. Well actually a child could have done a bit better I reckon. I'm not the best web designer in the world, far from it but i'm sure I could have done a bit better than that.
Put some useful information on your site Jersey Fire and Rescue. You do a great job at everything else.
Now back to figuring out how to evacuate 250 people safely.
